Knives
A chef's knives are the most essential tool for cooking, and the thing is one kind does not suit all. When you're looking for your chef knives you need to feel them in your hand and see if you like the balance; some stores will even let you cut something like a tomato with the knife. There are different styles such as French, Swiss, Japanese, and German. I got an expert to gather a kit for me based on his experience and then I added on. A basic set should include an 8 or 10" chef's knife, a bread knife, birds beak paring knife, utility knife, and a honing steel. if you are not a fan of putting your knives in the drawer or you transport them a lot a knife roll is a very good investment; they carry between 8 to 12 knifes and have many different pockets I recommend buying from a trusted retailer such as Victorinox because they have already been put through a lot of testing. Mine is stab proof and made of many different materials including hard nylon. A good chef's knife is not cheap. I have seen them go to crazy prices, but a good one should go to about $120 and a set for around $600, and that's at the least if you get the lifelong lasting ones. So I highly recommend if you do a lot of cooking: buy yourself a decent knife; it will make all the difference.
